If Anything Really Mattered

Don't "pess" on my Optimism
2001

If the environment really mattered, then there would be huge programs already in place. The government would have a union of employees, agents, and advisors out in the field. On a national, local, and neighborhood level, there would be a campaign of information about the need to be "hands on" with this premise. It would be something that people honestly could feel good about doing. This would be such an easy program to implement. Where is it?

If diet really mattered, then there would be public education plans already working. The FDA would have a division of consultants, planners, and family coordinators working on it now. On a national, local, and neighborhood level, there would be a campaign of information about the need to be "hands on" with this premise. It would be something that people honestly could feel good about doing. This would be such an easy program to implement. Where is it?

So; planetary health is not a major concern. The ozone; pollution; contaminated air, water, and soil--these are not vital enough for government attention. Improvement of the way we treat our "homebase" is not important to our elected officials.

And; individual health is not a major concern. Poisonous consumption, poor eating habits, and a lack of exercise--these are not vital enough for government attention. Improvement of the way we treat our individual "homebases" (bodies) is not important to our elected officials.

Common sense tells you, the citizen, that you should make an attempt to be less wasteful. You should try to take things to recycling bins, and try to avoid poisons. Common sense also tells you that you should eat less fat, and more natural foods. You should avoid processed consumables and get more regular exercise...But...

Here is my point; are you ready? "The planet is going to die, and so are you." Neither one of these facts can be changed. So wake up and smell the landfill.

You can re-use everything that you store and supply your needs with. You can eat vegetables that grow in a natural composte of your own personal waste. It won't matter. There still will be factories creating styrofoam, pumping toxic fumes, contaminating resources, and destroying the ozone.

Psychology has shown that individual beings like to feel important. As an individual, if you want to make a personal choice to be better than the average body, then do so. But don't think that your individual actions are going to change the outcome; they won't. Everything is already decided; all we are doing now is completing the final walk to the gas chamber. So breathe deep and sleep tight.
